Ingredients
Sauce Base
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup vegan mayo
Sautéed Aromatics
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup onions, diced
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter
Seasonings
- 4 teaspoons hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons maple syrup
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: In a casserole or saucepan, melt the vegan butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic, and fry for about 3 minutes or until the onions are soft and golden brown, releasing their natural sweetness.
- Prepare Sauce Base: Remove the saucepan from the heat and transfer the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to a food processor or blender. Add the vegan mayo, tomato paste, hot sauce, smoked paprika, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Blend Until Smooth: Blend all the ingredients together until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency, ensuring all flavors are well combined. Adjust seasoning with additional salt or pepper if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier sauce, increase the amount of hot sauce according to your taste.
- The sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Use vegan mayo to keep the recipe plant-based. Regular mayo can be substituted if not vegan.
- This sauce pairs exceptionally well with grilled foods, salads, rice bowls, and as a dip for fries or veggies.
- Feel free to add a squeeze of lemon juice for extra tanginess if desired.
