Ingredients
Bananas
- 4 ripe but firm bananas
- 8 popsicle sticks or skewers
Chocolate Coating
- 1 ¼ cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Toppings
- ¼ cup chopped toppings (peanuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, sea salt, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare Bananas: Peel the bananas and cut each in half crosswise to create manageable banana pops.
- Freeze Bananas: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Insert a popsicle stick or skewer into each banana half. Place them on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe tall glass, combine the semisweet chocolate chips and coconut oil. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted.
- Coat Bananas: Remove the frozen bananas from the freezer. Dip each banana half into the melted chocolate, using a spoon if necessary to coat evenly. Allow excess chocolate to drip off before placing the banana back on the parchment paper.
- Add Toppings: While the chocolate is still wet, immediately sprinkle your choice of chopped peanuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or sea salt over the bananas to add texture and flavor. Let the chocolate set at room temperature for 5-10 minutes.
- Serve or Store: Enjoy the chocolate covered bananas immediately for a soft texture or store them in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months for a firmer, frozen treat.
Notes
- Use firm but ripe bananas to ensure they hold their shape well during freezing and dipping.
- If the chocolate thickens too much, gently reheat it in short bursts to maintain a smooth consistency.
- Customize toppings to your preference; chopped nuts add crunch, sprinkles add color, and sea salt enhances the chocolate flavor.
- Store leftover banana pops in a freezer-safe container to maintain freshness and texture.
- For a dairy-free version, ensure chocolate chips and toppings are free from milk derivatives.
