This White Pizza Sauce recipe is a quick and easy creamy sauce made from butter, flour, milk, garlic, and parmesan cheese. Perfect for adding a rich and flavorful touch to your homemade pizzas, this sauce comes together in just 5 minutes on the stovetop and can be stored refrigerated for up to 5 days.
Ingredients
Sauce Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cup milk (2% or whole milk)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, pressed or finely grated
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Add Flour: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and continue whisking for 1 to 2 minutes, making sure the mixture does not brown.
- Add Milk Slowly: Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly until the sauce becomes smooth, thickened, and bubbly.
- Season the Sauce: Whisk in 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, and the pressed or grated garlic cloves, mixing thoroughly.
- Incorporate Parmesan Cheese: Stir in the shredded parmesan cheese and whisk for another 30 seconds. Remove the saucepan from heat and continue whisking until the cheese melts completely and the sauce is smooth. Avoid boiling the sauce after adding cheese to prevent curdling.
- Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool before using it on pizza. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Do not let the butter and flour mixture brown during cooking to maintain a smooth, white sauce.
- Use 2% or whole milk for best creaminess, but you can substitute with lactose-free milk if needed.
- Press or finely grate the garlic to ensure even distribution and flavor.
- Do not boil the sauce after adding the parmesan cheese to avoid curdling.
- Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within 5 days.
