Description
Chicken Lumpia is a Filipino classic spring roll filled with seasoned ground chicken, carrots, onions, and oyster sauce, wrapped in lumpia wrappers and fried until golden and crispy. Served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce, it’s a crowd-pleasing appetizer, snack, or side dish.
Ingredients
Lumpia filling:
2 lbs ground chicken thighs
1 large carrot, grated (1 cup)
1 onion, grated (1 cup)
2 eggs
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
Lumpia wrappers (or spring roll wrappers)
2 whisked egg whites (for sealing)
Filipino Smash Sauce:
1/2 cup banana ketchup
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 tbsp relish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground chicken, grated carrot, onion, eggs, oyster sauce, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Separate lumpia wrappers. Transfer filling to a piping bag or ziplock with a cut corner.
- Pipe a line of filling onto a wrapper, roll tightly while folding in sides, and seal edge with egg white. Repeat until all filling is used.
- Place rolled lumpia on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and fry lumpia in batches, seal side down, until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- For the Smash Sauce, mix banana ketchup, mayonnaise, and relish until smooth. Serve with lumpia.
Notes
- Substitute ground pork, beef, or shrimp for the chicken.
- Add cabbage, bean sprouts, or green beans for more veggies.
- Use hoisin sauce instead of oyster sauce for a sweeter taste.
- Make mini lumpia for party-sized snacks.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes for a lighter option.
