Ingredients
Shrimp
- 1 – 1 1/2 lbs peeled and deveined shrimp (16 or 20 count per pound is optimal)
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
Honey Lime Sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 1/2 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
- 3 – 5 cloves garlic, minced or grated
- 1 tsp sriracha sauce
- 1 – 2 limes, juiced
Instructions
- Prepare and season shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Season 1 to 1 1/2 lbs peeled and deveined shrimp with 1/2 tsp kosher salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/4 tsp chili powder, and 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper evenly to ensure balanced flavor.
- Cook shrimp: Add 2 Tbsp vegetable oil and 1 Tbsp unsalted butter to the hot skillet. Place shrimp in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary, dividing the oil and butter accordingly). Cook shrimp for 2 minutes on each side, until pink, golden brown, and curled into a “C” shape. Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate temporarily.
- Make sauce: Reduce the skillet heat to medium. In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup honey, 1 1/2 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce, 3 to 5 cloves of minced or grated garlic, 1 tsp sriracha sauce, and the juice of 1 to 2 limes. Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir, allowing it to cook for about one minute until bubbling and fragrant.
- Return shrimp to skillet: Add the cooked shrimp back to the skillet and toss them to coat evenly with the honey lime sauce, allowing the flavors to meld and the shrimp to reheat slightly.
- Serve: Plate the shrimp and serve immediately, optionally garnished with lime wedges and minced cilantro for added freshness and presentation.
Notes
- You can adjust the spiciness by modifying the amount of sriracha and cayenne pepper to your taste.
- Cooking shrimp in batches ensures even searing without overcrowding the pan.
- Serve with steamed rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor in the sauce.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce.
