Ingredients
Bread and Garlic Spread
- 2 (16-ounce) loaves French bread
- 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Pasta and Sauce
- 8 ounces spaghetti, cooked according to package instructions and drained
- 1 pound ground beef
- olive oil, if necessary
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 3 tablespoons fresh parsley or basil, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for toasting the bread and melting the cheese later.
- Cook Pasta: Bring a pot of salted water to boil, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- Brown Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and crumble the ground beef until fully browned with no pink remaining. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: Remove all but 2 tablespoons of fat from the skillet. If less fat remains, add olive oil to total 2 tablespoons. Reduce heat to medium-low and add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Simmer Sauce: Stir in Italian seasoning and marinara sauce. Let the sauce simmer gently for 5 to 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss well to coat all noodles evenly.
- Prepare Garlic Butter Spread: In a small bowl, mix room temperature butter with minced garlic cloves and Italian seasoning until smooth and evenly combined.
- Hollow Out Bread: Slice each French bread loaf in half lengthwise and carefully hollow out most of the interior, leaving about a 1/2 inch thick border to hold the filling.
- Spread Butter and Toast: Divide the garlic butter mixture between the two bread halves, spreading it evenly. Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven until golden and aromatic.
- Fill and Top Bread: Spoon half of the spaghetti mixture evenly onto each toasted bread half. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over each.
- Bake to Melt Cheese: Return the stuffed breads to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the spaghetti is heated through and the mozzarella is melted and browned.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle freshly chopped parsley or basil on top. Slice the bread into individual servings using a serrated knife and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Be careful not to hollow out the bread too thinly to avoid structural collapse.
- Use fresh herbs like basil or parsley for garnish to add brightness.
- For a vegetarian version, replace ground beef with sautéed mushrooms or plant-based crumbles.
- If you want spicy, add crushed red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce.
- Leftover stuffed garlic bread can be reheated in the oven for best texture retention.
