Description

Deliciously soft and chewy Snickerdoodle Bars featuring the classic cinnamon-sugar coating, baked to perfection in a convenient 9×13 inch pan. These bars combine the beloved flavors of traditional snickerdoodle cookies in an easy-to-make, shareable format that’s perfect for gatherings or simple snacking.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla paste
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature while you prepare the dough.
  2. Mix Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy. Then add the eggs one at a time along with the vanilla paste, mixing well after each addition. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined, forming the dough.
  3. Prepare Baking Pan: Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan using butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking. Evenly press the dough into the bottom of the pan, smoothing it out into a uniform layer.
  4. Add Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, mix together 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top of the pressed dough layer.
  5. Bake the Bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 22 to 26 minutes, being careful not to overbake. The edges should be lightly golden while the center remains soft.
  6. Cool and Serve: After baking, remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, cut into 24 squares and serve.

Notes

  • Do not overbake to keep the bars soft and chewy.
  • Press the dough evenly in the pan for uniform baking.
  • Vanilla paste can be substituted with vanilla extract if needed.
  • For easier slicing, refrigerate the bars after cooling before cutting.
