Crispy chicken cutlets coated in seasoned pretzel crumbs and paired with a creamy honey mustard sauce—a satisfying blend of crunch, savory, and sweet.
Ingredients
Honey Mustard Sauce:
5 Tbsp full-fat mayonnaise
3 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp garlic powder
Chicken & Coating:
100 g (3.5 oz) pretzels, crushed
2 chicken breasts (approx. 250 g / 9 oz each), sliced into cutlets
35 g (¼ cup) plain flour
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp paprika
¾ tsp salt
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp oregano
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Cooking Oil & Garnishes:
180 ml (¾ cup) vegetable oil
Flaky sea salt, to serve
Finely diced chives, to serve
Instructions
- Whisk all honey mustard sauce ingredients in a bowl. Adjust sweetness and tang to taste. Set aside.
- Crush pretzels into coarse crumbs using a food processor or rolling pin.
- Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with pretzel crumbs mixed with all seasonings.
- Slice chicken breasts into cutlets. Dredge in flour, dip in egg, then press into pretzel crumbs until well-coated.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat to 180 °C (350 °F).
- Fry chicken in batches, 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165 °F (74 °C).
- Serve hot, garnished with sea salt and chives, with honey mustard sauce on the side.
Notes
- To bake instead of fry, use a 200 °C (400 °F) oven for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Use crushed tortilla chips or panko as alternate coatings.
- Air-fryer option: 180 °C (350 °F) for 10–12 minutes with light oil spray.
- Store sauce separately to keep chicken coating crisp during leftovers.
