Description

These fudgy and gooey Matcha Brownies are packed with white chocolate chunks and made in just one bowl using simple ingredients. A vibrant twist on classic brownies, perfect for matcha lovers.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup (158 g) butter (regular or vegan)
  • ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons (12 g) matcha powder, sifted
  • 1¼ cups (156 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips or chopped white/semisweet chocolate (regular or vegan)
  • Flaked sea salt, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add brown sugar and granulated sugar. Whisk until the mixture is thick and pulls away from the bowl like a paste.
  3. Add in the vanilla extract and eggs. Whisk until combined.
  4. Sift the matcha powder to remove clumps, then whisk together with salt and flour in a separate bowl.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Optionally sprinkle with flaked sea salt while still warm.
  10. Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 brownies.

Notes

  • Use high-quality matcha for best color and flavor.
  • Sifting the matcha powder is essential to avoid clumps.
  • Brownies will continue to set as they cool, so don’t overbake.
  • For vegan option, use plant-based butter, chocolate, and egg substitute.
