Description

This High Protein Puppy Chow is a delicious vegan and gluten-free snack that’s oil-free and packed with plant-based protein. Made with rice cereal, dairy-free dark chocolate, peanut butter, and vegan protein powder, it’s a perfect guilt-free treat for those craving a sweet, crunchy snack that also fuels your body.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 5 cups rice Chex cereal (or corn Chex)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (certified dairy free and gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (see notes for alternatives)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla flavor vegan protein powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Place the dry rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl, ensuring there is plenty of room to stir without breaking the cereal pieces.
  2. Melt Chocolate and Peanut Butter: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture evenly over the cereal. Using a rubber or silicone spatula, gently stir to coat all the cereal pieces without breaking them apart.
  4. Add Protein Powder: Sprinkle the vanilla vegan protein powder over the coated cereal. Gently stir again to ensure all pieces are completely covered with protein powder.
  5. Cool and Set: Allow the puppy chow to cool before serving. To speed up setting, spread the mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate or freeze until the chocolate coating firms up.

Notes

  • You can substitute peanut butter with almond butter or sunflower seed butter if allergic to peanuts.
  • Using certified gluten-free rice Chex ensures the recipe is safe for gluten-sensitive individuals.
  • Refrigerating the puppy chow helps the chocolate coating set faster and makes for easier handling.
  • This snack is best consumed within 3-4 days for optimal freshness.
