Description

This Ground Beef Gnocchi recipe is a quick and hearty dish combining savory browned ground beef with tender potato gnocchi in a creamy tomato sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes, it’s perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Liquids

  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or to taste)
  • 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes (with juices)
  • 1/3 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 3/4 cup heavy/whipping cream

Others

  • 1 pound uncooked potato gnocchi
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef and onion: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the lean ground beef and chopped onion. Cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent. If excess fat accumulates, spoon out most of it for a leaner dish.
  2. Add aromatics and seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Cook everything together for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add liquids and gnocchi: Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juices, chicken or beef broth, and heavy cream. Add the uncooked potato gnocchi to the pan and stir to combine. Once the sauce begins bubbling, cover the pan and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Simmer and thicken sauce: Uncover the pan and stir the mixture. Continue cooking for a few more minutes until the gnocchi is tender and soft and the sauce has thickened to your liking.
  5. Finish with cheese and seasoning: Stir in the freshly grated parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your creamy ground beef gnocchi.

Notes

  • You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter sauce.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes with the Italian seasoning.
  • Fresh gnocchi can be used instead of uncooked; adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently on the stovetop.
