Description
This Grilled Turkey Sandwich with Apple Butter combines savory turkey, sharp cheddar cheese, and buttery avocado with the sweet and tangy richness of apple butter, all grilled to golden perfection on sourdough bread. A comforting, flavorful meal perfect for any time of day.
Ingredients
4 slices sourdough bread (whole wheat sourdough if available)
6 tablespoons apple butter
2 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, sliced
2 1/2 ounces sliced turkey
1/2 Hass avocado, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat a panini press, grill pan, or skillet to medium heat. Adjust based on your panini maker settings.
- Arrange the sourdough slices on a cutting board. Spread 1 1/2 tablespoons of apple butter evenly on each slice of bread.
- Layer sharp Cheddar cheese, sliced turkey, and avocado on two slices of bread. Top with the remaining bread slices to close the sandwiches.
- Brush the outside of the sandwiches with olive oil to help them crisp up while grilling.
- Grill the sandwiches until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown. Flip halfway through if using a skillet or grill pan, or just close the panini press if using one.
- Let the sandwich rest for 1 minute to allow the cheese to firm up.
- Slice the sandwich in half and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
- Add greens like spinach or arugula for extra freshness and flavor.
- Switch the sharp Cheddar for Gruyère, Swiss, or mozzarella for a different taste.
- Substitute apple butter with Dijon mustard, cranberry sauce, or other spreads for a twist.
- For a spicy kick, add jalapeño slices or red pepper flakes.
