Description

Delicious and tender grilled Brussels sprouts made effortlessly in foil packs with simple ingredients. This plant-based side dish features halved Brussels sprouts and thick onion slices seasoned with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, grilled to perfection for a smoky, melt-in-your-mouth experience perfect for summer meals.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • ½ pound Brussels sprouts, cut in half
  • ½ yellow onion, cut into thick slices

Seasonings & Oils

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for cooking your Brussels sprouts in foil packs.
  2. Prepare Brussels Sprouts and Onions: Wash the Brussels sprouts thoroughly and pat them dry. Cut the Brussels sprouts in half and slice the yellow onion into thick pieces.
  3. Season Vegetables: In a large bowl, combine the halved Brussels sprouts and onion slices. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Toss everything together to evenly coat the vegetables with the seasoning.
  4. Assemble Foil Pack: Place the seasoned Brussels sprouts and onions onto a large piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Cover with another large piece of foil and tightly seal the edges by folding the foil together, creating a secure packet.
  5. Poke Vent Hole: Use a fork or knife to carefully puncture a hole at the top of the foil pack to allow steam to escape during grilling.
  6. Grill Vegetables: Place the foil packet directly over the heat on the preheated grill. Grill for 20-25 minutes, flipping once halfway through if desired, until the Brussels sprouts are tender and have a slight char.
  7. Serve: Carefully remove the foil pack from the grill and open it cautiously to avoid steam burns. Taste and add more salt and pepper if necessary, then serve immediately as a flavorful side dish.

Notes

  • Use heavy-duty aluminum foil to prevent tearing and ensure proper cooking.
  • Poking a vent hole prevents the foil packet from bursting and allows steam to escape for even cooking.
  • Adjust grilling time based on the size of Brussels sprouts and grill heat.
  • This recipe is plant-based and naturally vegan.
  • For added flavor, consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice or some grated Parmesan after grilling (optional).
