Description
These Greek Yogurt Biscuits are a simple, quick, and delicious homemade biscuit recipe made with just Greek yogurt and self-rising flour. They bake up golden, fluffy, and perfect to enjoy warm with butter, jam, or as a side to your favorite meal. Ideal for a wholesome snack or a comforting accompaniment.
Ingredients
Biscuits
- 1 1/2 cups Greek yogurt (2%)
- 2 cups self-rising flour, plus more for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set it aside to prepare for the biscuits.
- Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt and self-rising flour. Stir initially with a spatula, then use your hands to mix and knead the dough about 20 times until it forms a soft ball that is not sticky but also not dry. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour gradually.
- Shape the Biscuits: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and flatten it into a 1-inch thick round disc. Use a 2.5-inch biscuit cutter or a floured glass to cut out biscuits. Repeat cutting until all dough is used. Alternatively, divide the dough into 10 even pieces and shape each by hand for a rustic look.
- Place on Baking Sheet: Arrange the cut biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart to allow for rising during baking.
- Bake Biscuits: Bake in the preheated oven for about 18 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Serve Warm: Remove biscuits from the oven and enjoy them warm, fresh out of the oven, plain or with your favorite toppings such as butter or jam.
Notes
- Use self-rising flour to simplify the recipe; if unavailable, you can make your own by combining 2 cups all-purpose flour with 1 tablespoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Do not over-knead the dough beyond 20 turns to keep the biscuits tender.
- If the dough feels too sticky, add flour gradually but avoid making it too dry.
- For different flavors, try adding herbs like chives or rosemary into the dough.
- These biscuits are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven or toaster oven to refresh.
