Description

These Greek chicken burgers are packed with vibrant Mediterranean flavors like sun-dried tomatoes, fresh dill, and spinach. They are quick and easy to prepare, making them a perfect dinner staple. Cooked in a skillet for a golden crust and juicy interior, these patties can be enjoyed plain or assembled with classic toppings such as tzatziki, feta, and fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 cup (loosely packed) baby spinach roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Optional Items for Serving

  • Butter lettuce
  • Tzatziki sauce
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Sliced onion
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced avocado

Instructions

  1. Make the burger patties: In a medium bowl, combine the ground chicken, diced red onion, minced garlic, finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes, roughly chopped baby spinach, fresh dill, dried oregano, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Use your hands to mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Then divide the mixture evenly and form 4 large burger patties.
  2. Cook the patties: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for approximately 5 minutes on each side, or until the patties turn golden brown and are cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Alternatively, you can cook them on a preheated grill for a smoky flavor.
  3. Assemble the chicken burger: Serve the patties plain or assemble burgers by placing each patty on butter lettuce leaves or buns and adding your favorite toppings such as tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta, sliced onions, tomato, and avocado for a delicious meal.

Notes

  • Store cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
  • To freeze, let cooked patties cool to room temperature, freeze them individually on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container separated by parchment paper. They keep well for up to 3 months.
  • Raw patties can be prepared up to one day in advance and stored in the fridge layered with parchment paper in an airtight container.
  • Consider making Greek fries as a tasty side to complement these burgers.
  • Use leftover sun-dried tomatoes in Mediterranean baked feta or Tuscan chicken recipes for great flavor.
