Description

This easy Penuche fudge recipe features a rich brown sugar flavor and a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. A perfect holiday treat, it’s quick to make and ideal for gifting or serving on dessert trays.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, plus additional for buttering parchment
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped pecans, plus additional for topping if desired

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring as needed.
  3. Add brown sugar and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk while continuing to stir, then bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 30 to 40 minutes, until lukewarm or room temperature.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring until thick and fudge-like in consistency.
  8. Stir in chopped pecans.
  9. Spoon the mixture into the prepared loaf pan and top with extra pecans if desired.
  10. Cover and let cool until firm, then cut into squares and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Let the mixture cool fully before adding powdered sugar to ensure a creamy texture.
  • Adjust the amount of powdered sugar based on desired fudge thickness.
  • Top with extra pecans for presentation and added crunch.
  • Store in the refrigerator to maintain firmness and freshness.
