Description

Creamy Garlic Potatoes is a quick and easy stovetop side dish made with tender boiled potatoes and a rich garlic cream sauce. With just six simple ingredients, this recipe comes together quickly and is perfect for busy weeknights or as a flavorful accompaniment to a variety of entrees. The creamy texture paired with aromatic garlic makes these potatoes irresistible and a perfect comfort food addition to your meal.

Ingredients

Potatoes

  • 1 lb. white potatoes
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Garlic Cream Sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook potatoes: Start by boiling water in a medium saucepan and adding ½ teaspoon sea salt to the water. Do not peel the potatoes unless you prefer to. Cut the potatoes into quarters by slicing lengthwise twice if they are round. Add the potato pieces to the boiling water and cook until tender enough to be pierced with a fork, about 15 to 20 minutes. Once cooked, drain and remove the potatoes from the saucepan.
  2. Make creamy garlic sauce: While the potatoes are boiling, chop the garlic. In the empty saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat, then add the chopped garlic. Cook the garlic for about 3 minutes until it becomes golden and fragrant. Next, add ½ cup of heavy cream and reduce the heat to low. Let the garlic simmer in the cream for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Assemble the potatoes: Add the drained potatoes back into the saucepan with the garlic cream sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste and gently stir to combine all ingredients well. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the dish if using, mix, and the creamy garlic potatoes are ready to serve.

Notes

  • Leaving the potato skins on adds texture and nutrients, but feel free to peel if you prefer a smoother texture.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; avoid pre-minced garlic as it loses potency.
  • Adjust the cream quantity to achieve your preferred consistency of sauce.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk, keeping in mind the sauce will be less rich.
