Description
A rich and creamy Coconut Hot Chocolate made with full-fat coconut milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a touch of vanilla. This dairy-free treat is perfect for cozy evenings, topped with mini marshmallows for added sweetness and texture.
Ingredients
Hot Chocolate Base
- 1 13.5 oz can of full fat coconut milk
- 1–2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (adjust to taste)
- 2–3 tbsp white granulated sugar or coconut sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Garnish
- Mini marshmallows (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Combine Coconut Milk: Pour the full-fat coconut milk into a medium saucepan over medium heat. If the coconut milk has separated in the can, whisk it vigorously for 1-2 minutes to recombine the cream and liquid.
- Add Cocoa and Sweetener: Stir in the unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar (white or coconut), and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and fully combined.
- Heat Thoroughly: Let the mixture warm on the stove, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes until it is hot but not boiling.
- Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mug. Top generously with mini marshmallows if desired for an extra indulgent touch.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cocoa powder according to your preferred chocolate intensity.
- Use coconut sugar instead of white sugar for a more natural sweetener and a slight caramel flavor.
- Stir continuously to prevent the cocoa powder from clumping during heating.
- This recipe is naturally dairy-free and vegan if vegan marshmallows are used.
- For a richer flavor, chill the can of coconut milk and use only the solid cream portion.
