Description

Chicken Provolone is a simple yet flavorful dish that combines tender, juicy chicken breasts with the richness of melted provolone cheese, fresh basil, and a savory touch of prosciutto. It’s a quick and easy meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights or when you’re craving something deliciously satisfying without much fuss.

Ingredients

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 ounces each)

1/4 teaspoon pepper

8 fresh basil leaves

4 slices provolone cheese

Prosciutto (optional, if you like extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle the chicken breasts with pepper on both sides.
  2. In a large skillet coated with cooking spray, cook the chicken over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  3. Transfer the cooked chicken breasts to an ungreased baking sheet.
  4. Place 2 basil leaves on each chicken breast. Add a slice of prosciutto (if using) and then top with a slice of provolone cheese.
  5. Place the baking sheet under the broiler, 6-8 inches from the heat source. Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve hot, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired.

Notes

  • Herb variations: You can add other herbs such as thyme or oregano for additional flavor.
  • Cheese substitutions: If you prefer, you can substitute provolone with mozzarella, gouda, or Swiss cheese for a different taste.
  • Add vegetables: Sautéed mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, or roasted peppers make great additions on top of the chicken for more depth of flavor.
