Description

These baked Chai Donuts are sweetened with maple syrup and packed with cozy fall spices. Topped with a simple glaze, they’re the perfect warm treat for a chilly morning alongside coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon chai spice mix
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • For the icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease donut pans with non-stick baking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and chai spice mix.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, vegetable oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared donut pans. Use a piping bag for easier filling, if desired.
  6. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove donuts from pans and cool on a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk until smooth. Dip the tops of cooled donuts into the icing and allow to set.
  9. Enjoy warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Use homemade chai spice mix for the best flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep donuts light and fluffy.
  • A piping bag helps neatly fill the donut pans with less mess.
  • Store donuts in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 3 days.
  • Try other chai-inspired bakes like chai cookies or apple chai bread for more cozy treats.
