Description
This one-pan Beef Taco Skillet is a quick and satisfying 30-minute dinner made with seasoned ground beef, black beans, salsa, tortillas, and melty cheese. It’s a perfect weeknight meal that the whole family will love.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 (14 fluid ounce) can black beans, drained & rinsed
- 1 (14.5 fluid ounce) jar salsa (use your favorite kind)
- 4 medium flour tortillas, cut into quarters
- 1 cup Tex-Mex cheese blend, shredded
- Optional toppings: sour cream, chopped scallions, cilantro, avocado
Instructions
- Add the ground beef and chopped onions to a skillet over medium-high heat. Break up the meat and stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and chili powder. Cook for 8–10 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Preheat your oven broiler to high and move the rack to the top third of the oven.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add in the black beans, salsa, and tortilla quarters. Gently toss everything together until well combined and the tortillas are spread evenly throughout the skillet.
- Let the mixture heat through for a few minutes on the stove.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top of the skillet.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and broil for a few minutes, watching closely, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your desired toppings. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
- If you prefer firmer tortillas, toast them separately and mix them in just before serving.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef if desired.
- This recipe is great for using up leftover tortillas or salsa.
