Description

This Avocado Hummus is a creamy, refreshing, and versatile twist on the classic hummus recipe. Blending ripe avocados with chickpeas and tahini creates a smooth, vibrant green dip that’s perfect for snacking or entertaining. Its silky texture is enhanced by ice cubes, making it an easy, wholesome, and delicious appetizer or spread for crackers, chips, or crudités.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 15 oz canned chickpeas, 1 can, drained and rinsed
  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 3 tbsp tahini
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 ice cubes

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh parsley
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas. Peel and pit the ripe avocados. Juice the lemon and peel the garlic clove.
  2. Combine in Blender: In a food processor or high-speed blender, place the chickpeas, avocados, tahini, lemon juice, salt, and garlic. Add the two ice cubes to help achieve a silky smooth texture.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Blend the mixture until silky and smooth. If the hummus is too thick, add water one tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the avocado hummus into a serving dish. Garnish with fresh parsley, a drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes if desired. Serve with crackers, chips, or fresh crudités.

Notes

  • If allergic to sesame or cannot find tahini, substitute with sunflower seed butter.
  • This hummus can be customized by adding fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley, or spices such as paprika or cumin for extra flavor.
  • Try variations by swapping chickpeas with white beans or edamame, or adding avocado to red lentil hummus recipes.
  • Save avocado pits and skins for natural dye projects instead of discarding.
