Description

This easy and delicious Apple Crisp features a mix of tart Granny Smith and sweet Honeycrisp apples, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and topped with a buttery oat streusel. It’s a cozy, crowd-pleasing dessert perfect for fall or any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 4 Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • Optional toppings: sea salt flakes, vanilla bean ice cream, salted caramel

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a 12×8-inch oval baking dish, combine diced Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together 3 tablespoons flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples and toss to coat evenly.
  4. In a medium bowl, prepare the streusel topping: combine flour, oats, baking powder, brown sugar, salt, and butter. Use a fork or pastry cutter to mix until crumbly.
  5. Spread the streusel topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Serve warm with vanilla bean ice cream, a drizzle of salted caramel, and a sprinkle of sea salt flakes if desired.

Notes

  • Using two types of apples gives a balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • For best results, make sure the butter in the topping is cold before mixing.
  • This dessert can be made ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
