Description

Apple Crisp Cups are a mini, bite-sized twist on the classic apple crisp dessert. With a buttery oat crust, warm cinnamon-spiced apple filling, and a crumbly topping, these portable treats are perfect for fall parties, holidays, or cozy nights in. Easy to make ahead and ideal for sharing, they bring all the comforting flavors of apple crisp without the need for bowls or spoons.

Ingredients

3 large McIntosh apples, peeled, cored, and chopped

1/4 cup water

2 tablespoons white sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or to taste

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups rolled oats

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

1 1/2 cups butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease four 12-cup mini muffin tins.
  2. In a saucepan, combine apples, water, white sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Simmer over medium-low heat until apples are partially cooked, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Place a heaping tablespoon of crust mixture into each muffin cup, pressing firmly to cover the bottom and sides. Patch any holes so the crust reaches the top of the cup. Reserve remaining crumb mixture.
  5. Spoon about 2 teaspoons of apple filling into each crust. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of reserved crumb mixture over the filling.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor.
  • Add chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
  • Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving for a decadent touch.
  • Line muffin tins with paper liners to prevent sticking.
  • These cups freeze well for up to 2 months.
