Description

These homemade Air Fryer Churro Bites are a delightful treat featuring a simple dough cooked to golden perfection in an air fryer. Coated in a cinnamon sugar mixture, these sweet bites are perfect for a quick dessert or snack and come together easily with minimal ingredients.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • ⅓ cup (plus 1 tablespoon) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

For the Coating:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Boil Ingredients: In a pan, combine water, unsalted butter, salt, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat to melt the butter and dissolve the sugar.
  2. Make Dough: Reduce the heat and gradually add the flour into the boiling mixture while stirring continuously until the dough forms into a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Turn off the heat.
  3. Cool Dough: Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl and let it cool for 4-5 minutes to prevent cooking the egg when added.
  4. Mix Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the dough. Use an electric hand mixer to combine thoroughly until smooth and well incorporated.
  5. Prepare Air Fryer: Transfer the dough into a piping bag. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with a neutral nonstick cooking spray like coconut oil spray.
  6. Pipe and Air Fry: Pipe bite-sized churro shapes into the basket without overcrowding. You can also spoon dollops of dough if preferred. Brush the churros with melted butter for added flavor and crispness. Cook for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Repeat with remaining dough in batches.
  7. Mix Coating: In a shallow bowl, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  8. Coat Churro Bites: Once cooked, immediately toss the churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly. If needed, brush with melted butter or spray lightly with water/nonstick spray to help the coating stick better.
  9. Serve: Serve the churro bites warm with chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crisping.
  • Adjust cooking time slightly based on your air fryer model; monitor for golden brown color.
  • You can pipe or spoon the dough depending on your preference; piping gives traditional churro shapes.
  • Brushing with butter before air frying enhances flavor and creates a crisp texture.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and taste, but leftovers can be reheated briefly in the air fryer.
